ABOUT THE CREDIT

Credit Make Up Policy

In general, the Academic office requires students to attend every class. Due to special circumstances where students must take a leave of absence, the following credit make up policies instituted by the Academic office must be adhered to in order to receive full credit for each course taken.

  1. Make up credits cannot exceed 1/8 of total credits required for graduation. The final grade for hte make up course will automatically be dropped two levels from the original given grace. (For example, B+ to B-).
  2. The student must complete and submit an Credit Make Up Application Form. (See Various Student Forms > Form 6) to the Academic office.
  3. Once the application is approved, the student can begin watching video recordings of the class or listen to audio recordings. The student also must complete a Study Log. (See Various Student Forms > Form 10)
  4. Instructor's approval is required before taking lecture in audio or video format.
  5. The student must inquire about assignments and course requirements from fellow classmates. Upon the completion of watching or listening to recordings, the student has three months to turn in all required assignments and the Study Log to the Academic office.
  6. If an examination is part of the course, the student making up the course also must take the examination. The Academic office will schedule a time with the regional campus staff to give examinations to all make up students at once.

Credit Transfer Policy

The following criteria must be met in order for credits from other institutions to be accepted by GETS Theological Seminary.

  1. Institution must be an accredited member of Asia Theological Association (ATA).
  2. If the institution is not a member of ATA, the institution and its course, including the lecturer, must be recognized and approved by GETS Theological Seminary.
  3. Grades earned in the courses must be the standard of B or above.
  4. Course must have been taken within the last seven years.
  5. Credits transfered cannot exceed 50 percent of total credits required for graduation.

Students must submit a written request, transcript fro previous institution, and processing fee to the Academic office. Credit will be effective upon approval of the Academic office.

Credit Retention Period

When an extensive period of leave of absence is taken due to special circumstances, all earned credits will remain effective for seven years. For example,

if the course "Gospels" was completed in September 2007, credits earned will no longer be available after October 2014. If the student wishes to return to GETS at a later time, the class must be retaken and tuition must be paid again if it is a required course for the degree program.
